Over time, I have been seeing a correlation between skateboard parks and petroglyphs sites through their similar iconic charge and ceremonial language. The repetitive acts in these inscriptions, whether they are spray-painted signature tag marks onto cement in the urban landscape or ancient pictogram carvings into rock and dirt in the historic landscape, their intent manifests presence in time and place, representing beliefs and symbols both pagan and sacred.  In these landscapes, both a defiant and tranquil state emerge that continues to reshape the iconography of these inhabitants in their own moment in history. My record of this imagery through  these photographic constructions talks about my need to also create new mythology with my presence in time and place.

The Urban Petroglyphs Works, a black and white series of photographs, was taken in skateboard parks in Vancouver, Calgary, and Whistler, Canada. These familiar mirrored reconstructions were shot first on negative film and then further manipulated through the use of the digital process.

Photographs are produced as Open Editioned Chromogenic Light Jet Prints on Archival Metallic Photographic Paper.
